Weleda New Zealand headquarters are based in the beautiful Havelock North, Hawke's Bay where we grow and make a wide range of anthroposophic and homoeopathic medicines.
Our gardens
Our New Zealand gardens provide many of the key ingredients for some of our natural remedies. To ensure the best quality ingredients we grow our own plants in herb gardens to certified biodynamic standards.
Biodynamic farming is a sustainable, closed circle (nothing from the outside), regenerative form of farming - it isn’t just about how the plants are grown it’s also about where and when we grow them. Farming in this way isn’t easy but it is well worth the extra effort we go to as our plants make potent tinctures from which we make our medicines.
No pesticides or artificial fertilisers are ever used. The land is managed sensitively and we’ve developed different habitats such as a pond, native woodland, meadows and hedgerows which help to sustain biodiversity with a rich and diverse population of insects, birds and animals.
Our gardeners
Our gardeners are special folk. Their job is to nurture, ensuring the plant itself and its environment is healthy. We use our own seed bank as we believe this makes for plants most suited to our environment here in the Hawke’s Bay.
We use traditional farming methods as it makes sense to rotate our growing beds annually and we combine wisdom from our many seasons of gardening, creating active composts to feed the soil from our own plant materials; we make our own biodynamic garden preparations from our natural materials which we spray in the Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.
Our aim is to grow the healthiest of plants, always.
Tincture production
Our New Zealand production facility is just a few metres away from the medicinal plant garden. Short distances from the plant bed to the plant extracting facility are important in order to maintain the high quality of the raw materials from biodynamic cultivation.
Weleda New Zealand complies with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) Pharmaceutical standards and is licensed and audited regularly by the Ministry of Health (Medsafe) under 21st century regulations. We are proud to work to very strict quality standards, which is how we can offer trustworthy natural healthcare products.
