Naturally relieve baby teething symptoms
Teething is a big milestone for you and your baby. For some babies it can be pretty uncomfortable, but if you know the signs you can help ease discomfort naturally.
What to look for
Teething usually starts around 6 months. Teething pain is not an illness, but getting teeth marks the next major step in a child’s development. The first teeth to appear are usually the two bottom middle teeth, followed by the two top middle teeth. The last teeth to make an appearance are usually the second, or back, molars in the lower and upper back of the mouth. Most children will have all their baby teeth by about two and a half. There are 20 in total, 10 at the top and 10 at the bottom.
Here are common teething symptoms to look out for:
-
Flushed cheeks possibly accompanied with a fever
-
Your baby's gum looks sore and red where a tooth is coming out
-
Your baby might chew, dribble, and want to gnaw on things
-
Baby’s bowel movements might get looser and they may develop a nappy rash
-
Your bundle of joy might be cranky or tearful, especially at night when the pain can sometimes make it difficult for them to sleep

Frequently asked questions about our Baby Teething Powder:
Do I make the Baby Teething Powder into a paste or dilute to make a liquid ?
Both are acceptable ways to administer the Baby Teething Powder to babies / children.
- Liquid: mix 1/4 of a level teaspoon of powder (approximately 1g) to one teaspoon (5ml) of warm water, and give to your baby off the spoon. The powder does not have to fully dissolve before giving it to a baby
- Paste: mix 1/4 of a level teaspoon of powder (approximately 1g) to a few drops of warm water to create a paste, and give to your baby off the spoon or onto their gums using a clean finger.
- Dry powder: can be given straight to babies used to eating solids, either on the teaspoon or applied directly to the gums using a clean finger
Note - Do not dip your finger directly into the jar of powder, as this could introduce unwanted microorganisms, always use a teaspoon to get the powder out of the jar
Is it essential to mix the dose of powder with 5ml of water?
It doesn’t matter how much water as long as the amount of powder, 1gm (1/4 teaspoon) is correct, the medicine will still have the same effect. You don’t need to use a whole teaspoon of water it can be more like a paste depending on the easiest way to administer it to your little one.
Can I mix the Baby Teething Powder directly into my baby’s bottle with their formula? or is it better to do with the spoonful of water?
It is best to give them the powder with a teaspoon of warm water. That way you can give it to them quickly and you know they have taken the dose.
How often can I give Baby Teething Powder?
3 to 4 times daily throughout the period of teething. Can be given as often as every 15 minutes for up to 6 doses if required, or as directed by your healthcare professional.
I was wondering if I can also administer it in addition to paracetamol? Or if I should just use one or the other?
Yes you can use the teething powder in addition to paracetamol. As with all medications please ensure that you follow the instructions on both products with regards to dosage and frequency and consult a healthcare professional if symptoms persist.
Is the product effective if they swallow it, rather than rubbing it on their gums?
Yes, that is how the product is intended to be taken. Your baby may get faster relief if there is direct contact with the gums.
Can I make a mix and store it to use later?
We do not recommend pre-mixing or storing made-up medicine. We recommend that you make each dose as your baby needs it.
Now that your baby has teeth...
You need to start caring for your baby’s teeth as soon as they arrive. You can use a small soft baby toothbrush with a smudge of toothpaste. At this age the main thing is to get your baby used to the routine twice a day. The recommendation is that one brushing should be at night before your baby goes to bed.
Always read the label and use only as directed. Consult a healthcare professional if symptoms persist. Weleda, Havelock North. TAPS PP8011.
